Am I totally mad for looking to buy my wedding dress 24 months before the wedding?? It all started after myself and my partner moved into our first home together, we had been engaged for nearly 2 years at that point. I started to think about our wedding as we had spent every penny we had on our house and thought it would be a good idea to look at a buget so we could start saving up. we agreed to have the wedding in 2014 as it would give us more time to save. So when you start looking at budgets you start with the important things like wedding reception and then Wedding dress!! anyways to cut a very long story short I had my heart set on a pronovias iman wedding dress with lace jacket so I started to email around to get a price for it, thats when I found out it was around 2500 for the dress and around 950 for the lace in pounds!! way way more than I would want to pay. I found a shop selling the pronovias lace that had a sample dress that was very close to the iman called georgina for 700!!! I thought id go try it on and get my dream dress and a steal at the same time! oh how wrong was I :(. The shop had sold the size 10uk dress so put me in a size 16uk, they held the dress on to me and shoved the lace jacket on top. my face fell, my heart with it too, I looked vile, the lace was over used and didnt fit so both ladys had one hand gathering the lace on my arms while they held the dress up with the other hand. Sooo I said no it wasnt the one and instead of going home I thought ill try some others one to make myself feel better. great idea! after trying the shop on I tryed the pronovias Alcanar and loved it, my mom cryed! so now I want it. I did go to another shop to try on others but nothing felt the same or looked as good. come on people please help the Wanabee out! I feel in my heart that this is my dress and I am not the sort of person to change my mind. what should I do????? this is me in the pronovias Alcanar

I think buying that early can put you at really high risk for developing dress regret sometime in the next two years, there’s also the changing sizes problem. Although if you’re really certain that neither of these things will happen to you, I think it’s just fine. I have my dress already, but I bought it because it was a super good deal and a limited time offer.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with buying your dress early. I only just got engaged in February and my wedding isn’t until next December but I have already bought my dress, then again I had the dress picked out before the proposal. Like many people have said before, the trick is once you buy the dress you have to stop looking. If you like it and whenever you try on other dress you keep comparing them to this one then it may just be the perfect dress.

my wedding is also 2 years from now and theres no way im making a dress purchase yet, its way too early. the styles change. you could fall in love with something else next year. i wont actively shop for a dress until the summer of 2013.

I bought mine 17 months before, I love it, no wobbles and I get married in 6 months, I think it depends on your personailty and whether you can like something one month and dislike it the next 🙂
I know some brides that have bought theirs years in advance and still love it, and others that have had wobbles

I bought mine 18 months before. I did get some dress regret but this was due to alterations not being done properly. You look gorgeous and there is no problem with buying THE dress early!

I have to admit that I had a hard time reading that big paragraph (paragraphs, friends!!).
There is plenty of time to find a great dress and a great deal. Keep trying on dresses.
I had my dress 13 months early due to a unique circumstance. It’s been sitting on a high shelf since and taking up A LOT of space. I kind of wish I had been on the traditional time line.

Did you buy the dress already?
I do think buying it early could increase the risk of dress regret but as we said in another thread, it depends on the kind of person that you are! Probably best if you don’t dress shop further haha
If you have not bought the dress, I would advise you to wait because the Alcanar is a pretty dress but it’s also classic. It’s one of those dresses Pronovias churns out every year (maybe a different name, slightly different lace or something) so if you still love it closer to your date, you can probably get it!
You look beautiful in it btw!

There is nothing wrong if you won’t have dress regret. I would suggest buying from a store where, if 12 months from now, you find a different style you fall in love with you can easily exchange it.

A LOT of girls on here have dress regret… your style and tastes may change with the rest of the wedding industry over the next two years. I’d wait.

If you love it, go for it. JUST DON”T LOOK AT OR TRY ON ANY DRESSES AFTER IT.
You wouldn’t cheat on your partner, so don’t cheat on your dress, and you wont get dress regret.

I already have my dress – I fell in love with it and got an amazing deal so, for me, it was the right thing to do. I wont be looking at other dresses though, too risky!

I bought mine early and regretted it a bit. But if you really love it, go for it and don’t look at other dresses!
