(Closed) Is 3.5 carat round diamond too big on size 5 finger? It's an heirloom.

I would just say go check it out. Yeah it might look big, but personally I’d rock a big family stone if I could…. well depending on the true color and clarity.

brosie: my rule is less than 1ct if it’s something we’re buying and no size limits if it’s a family stone. I have a size 4 finger.

The difference comes down to family = different rules. A family stone isn’t “mine” so much as I’m currently trusted to take care of it. It will be given to a daughter or granddaughter in the future So size doesn’t matter.

It def doesnt look as big as it sounds to me, but then again, I have larger hands. I love it!!

They get smaller as you wear them ๐Ÿ˜‰ wear it for a little while and see what you think – when you first see it it will seem massive so don’t judge just on that – hang out with it a bit! I have a 2ct center on a 6 finger and it felt HUGE when my Fiance (now husband) gave it to me – now I feel like I could’ve gone bigger ๐Ÿ˜‰ Blinging out the rest of the ring and wedding band could make it gaudy but it doesn’t sound like you’re planning that so I say go for it!

I would personally find that to be too big for everyday wear (and I’m a size 7), but it’s really all personal preference. If you try it on and like the size, then why not? You’ll have a big ring and family history in there to boot.

I’d be pretty wary of using an incredibly large (and thus valuable) stone on a day to day basis, especially if it wasn’t “mine”. It will look huge but that’s a matter of personal taste.

brosie:  Heck. No. Rock that piece! Ring shrinkage is real. So lucky to have a family heirloom such as that!

AquariusLove: I’m going to just sit in the corner and drool over your ring, now.
