It’s the same size. Moissanite is about 15% lighter than diamond.

Most people here go by mm size for their moissies. So saying something like: “I have a 7.5mm FB (or 1.5 carat equivalent).” 7.5mm is around the average size of a 1.5 carat diamond.

Most AG owners probably just say what the diamond equivalent weight is since they have that info.

Most gemstones owners just say how many carats their stone is, which is where I have a hard time equating. Sapphires, for example, are heavier than diamonds so a 2 carat sapphire will look smaller than a 2 carat diamond. But ask me how much smaller and I wouldn’t be able to tell ya without the Google.

Carat is a unit of mass, so I believe it’s closer to the former. I don’t have a moissy and haven’t seen one IRL that I know of, so I’m not sure how moissanite measures up against diamond in terms of carat weight to diameter.

CZs are heavier than diamonds. Case in point, my ~1.25cttw CZ a-band. Recently I had the CZs popped out and replaced with diamonds of the same dimensions. It became a ~0.75cttw ring. lol

Moissies are lighter. A 1ct diamond is about equal to a 0.90ct moissy. So, had I had an a-band of moissies that I had popped out and replaced by diamonds my cttw would have increased.

I currently have no plans to replace my moissies with diamonds, though.

bibbithebee:   all gem sizes of the same carat size can be different based on their specific gravity and density.Moissanite and other simulants CZ,AG, F1 are often sold/identified by diamond equivalency weight, meaning what size diamond they will appear to simulate.

Natural gemstones are identified by their own carat weights. So a 1 carat sapphire will be different size/wt than a 1 carat diamond or ruby etc.

bibbithebee:  I’m pretty sure if they say that about a moissy/AG/CZ, then yes, probably. But if they say “here’s my 1 carat sapphire ring!” I don’t think they mean “here’s my sapphire ring that’s the equivalent of a 1 carat diamond.” They mean it’s a 1 carat sapphire (which as I know I already mentioned, would be smaller than a 1 carat diamond).

NFLwidow:  Had no idea that cz’s are so heavy! I bet you were glad that you didn’t have to pay for 1.25 ct of diamonds! hahaha
