I have a .5. I have never felt that mine was too small. Also, that 1 carat rule is a joke. Most women I know, including me, their entire wedding sets, e-ring and band included only equal to a carat or somewhere around there.

There is really no such thing as “too small”of a diamond for an ering.

You shouldn’t need reassurance from other people, it doesn’t matter what size your diamond is. If you are concerned that people will look at you strangely or think badly of you because you have a ‘small’ diamond then you really need to not surround yourself with them. Mine is under a carat and where I live is considered big enough but  I could not care less what anyone thinks of it, it is my ring and I like it and that is all that matters.

How lucky that you have a family stone!  There’s no such thing as too small, In My Humble Opinion and your ring certainly sounds far from small.  I also am quite sure that the average diamond size in the U.S. is far less than a carat. Problem is, I can’t see the photos. Frown

This is my brand new engagement ring! 75pt blue topaz, and my finger’s are much bigger than yours (size 8.75) and I think it’s perfect! I wouldn’t want to go bigger for me for an everyday ring since I feel like it would catch on things.

Can’t see the pictures 🙁 however, posts like this make me sad because society makes so many girls believe their good sized diamonds are too small. Also, I highly doubt the average diamond is any larger than .75 carat. If I were you, I would accept the beautiful gift that is being offered to you and stop caring about what people think.

I have a size 7 finger.  My engagement ring is .75.  it fits my finger size perfectly.  I certainly do not feel .75 is small.  I’m not sure why people place so much importance on the size of the diamond.

This is my engagement ring with my bands.

@mrsk2b:

Well said.

OP: Do you mean for you? Or for me? Or for the randomn woman walking down the street? Everyone is different in their taste and likes and financial situations. I can’t speak for anyone else especially those that love their 3/4 carat or even smaller diamonds because they I’m going to assume think that the size is just perfect.

I like larger diamonds and I have one. That by no means should dictate what anyone else has, wants or gets. Again to each their own and if a 3/4 carat is what you like don’t let anything else become an influence on your decision.

@Lab lovers: That is so beautiful! And far from small. In all reality a .78 isn’t that much smaller than a 1 carat at all..

BUT that shouldn’t matter… I agree with @mrsk2b

And to add, we could have afforded a much, much bigger stone (with topaz the price difference is practically nothing) but we liked the 75pt best.
