@Supersleuth:  gosh that’s pretty, I forget how classically beautiful half carats in simple yellow gold settings are.

I think 1ct is pretty average.

Where I grew up, 1 ct is “normal”, not “big”. Where I live now, 1ct is “small”. In the DC metro area, 1.5-2.5 is “normal”, and 3+ is “big”.

@cwh:  i think it depends on the finger…My ring is a little under 4 cts, but I have a size 9 finger.

@MsKaren:  No probs. Spent most of my life in and around Manchester, and I now live just outside London. I have seen some bigger rocks in London, true… I also saw my first ever 1 ct diamond for sale since moving South. I had never seen one before about 2 years ago!

You know the awful thing though… when we first discussed marriage, I asked Darling Husband for either a small and practical e-ring which I could wear every day, or an heirloom from one of my grandmothers. He came through with what I think is probably a 0.3 or 0.4 (? never looked up the specs, although someone once said they thought it was a 0.25-0.3 ?), which was actually larger than I was expecting and which I love. He is now saying “I thought that ring was a good size when I got it, but now I have seen bigger ones. Maybe I should get you a bigger one”. That’s right… HE is experiencing shrinkage… probably because he works in central London. Suffice to say… I do not want a new ring at all! Problem.

@cwh:  In my circle of family/friends it seems big! I don’t know anyone who has a diamond bigger than 0.50 to be honest.
