I would go for the interview at least, but that does seem like a really long way. I only drive about 8 minutes to get to work, lol.

An hour is a piece of cake!!

get some good books on cd, download new music, you’ll come to enjoy your “me” time and its really not bad at all.

I used to have an hour long drive to work, two hours round trip each day. The drive itself wasn’t bad. I’d put on music and bring a thermos of tea and the time would fly by.

Unfortunately, it’s not the commute that is the hard part. The hard part is what your commute does to the rest of your life. When you have such a long commute you end up having to set a fairly ridged schedule for yourself. I found that my time in the car completely ate up all my down time and if I deviated from my schedule, chaos reigned in all aspects of my life.

I moved recently and now have a half hour commute round trip. It’s changed my life. I’m still figuring out what to do with all my free time!

I commute 1 hr to 1 hr 15 mins depending on the train/bus connections on any given day. It’s doable, but it’s the max I am comfortable with. If I have to drive instead of take public transit, it takes me an hour to an hour and a half of hellish stop and go Bay Bridge traffic.

An hour on public transit = iPhone game bliss

An hour of driving in traffic = kill me now

i hate commuting (probably bc I’m not a morning person and I have to also ride a NYC subway).  I commute 45 minutes each way to work on the subway – and when Fiance and I buy a house, we’re looking at a commute that is 1hr+ (becasue affordable homes are far away from NYC!).  I think commuting in your car is a lot easier than public transit – you at least have that hour to mentally prepare for work, and then mentally unwind on the way home.

I think it depends on what the traffic is like…my commute is supposed to be 20-25 mins, but takes well over an hour because of traffic. I wouldn’t mind if it was an hour, but I was moving the whole time but sitting in traffic is brutal.

@NotablySidedJP:  Oh, ok. Thanks for letting me know, I usually think of “reservation” as “indigenous peoples reservation,” but it was obviously not that.

Important work! Thanks for making our world a safer and cleaner place.

An hour is fairly common where I live. I’ve had a number of jobs that I drove over 45 minutes to get to, and where I am now it’s normally about 45 minutes in the morning and an hour in the evening. Just depends on what you’re willing to do and if the job is worth the gas and the extra hours added to your work day.

@joya_aspera:  A lot of it is actually indian land. As we clean it up, we turn the land back over to the natives that were there before the government decided to start making plutonium there. Thanks for thanking me for my work. A lot of it feels like politics and paper work but it’s nice to be thanked every once in a while Smile

@mnp:  I don’t think it’s that bad. I work in NYC, living about 40 minutes from there. When I take the train, it’s an hour and a half commute. When I drive in, I usually give myself an hour and a half or more because of traffic.

@mnp:  It sucks but I know a lot of people who have it worse. My mom had a two hour commute each way to work back when we were little. You do what you gotta do.

My commute is about a 5 minute drive (more like 15 with all the damn road construction now) so I am pretty lucky in that way. I walk when it’s warm.

Thats 2 hours a day! 10 hours a week and 520 hours a year which is 3 whole weeks non stop day and night! Way too much in the long run.

That’s not bad at all…especially in this economy when it’s so hard to get a job in  the first place.

I have a 40 minute commute and, while it’s not the worst thing ever, it starts to suck after a while.  It also gets expensive to fill my car up with gas every week.  I started carpooling with three other people and it made a big difference, so there’s always that.  I would say that an hour commute wouldn’t be terrible, but it’s not a long-term solution.
