First of all, I’m really excited that I was offered a job today. YAY!
The only hesitation I have is that it’s an hour away (slim pickings in the school psychology field right now!). I’m totally in love with the school district and I will be going against traffic – but it’s a flat hour of a commute.
Am I going to hate my life?

I commute an hour, but it’s by subway/cushy work shuttle bus. It only gets annoying when it digs into weekday evening plans (very hard to make happy hour with friends who work by where I live, for example). An hour in the car is pretty awful (and expensive!) but if there’s not traffic, it likely wouldn’t be too bad. Have you tried it? I find that helpful. Do it one or two mornings if you can and see if your blood pressure rises too much :-).
If you are worried that there aren’t many jobs out there right now, i’d accept and do it for a year, and then re-evaluate. You can do almost anything for a year!

@crayfish: Thanks! I think that’s my plan- a year won’t be too bad. It’s definitely expensive in the car though, you’re right. Luckily my Fiance works for Honda.
I’ve been up there 3x for interviews – twice in monsoon rain and once today (beautiful weather). Rain added about 5 minutes to the commute.
Today’s interview was the the time school starts – so I got to see what a drive up there during the year would be like. Still an hour.
I was totally fine in the car – I can listen to the radio/audiobooks. I even drive in silence sometimes just to think. But I’m wondering if I’m just being optimistic and it’ll be worse than I imagine.

Completely depends how awesome the job is. For a mediocre job it wouldn’t be worth it to me.

I commute about 45 minutes to work right now. Once I get married, it’ll be an hour drive. Not too bad – I enjoy the alone time. I also like to think and listen to the radio/audiobooks. I love to read & a lot of times just feel like I don’t have the time, so sometimes it’s nice to get that “reading” squeezed in there like that.

I commute an hour and a half each way to my job. I drive with traffic, if you’re going against traffic you should be fine. Good Luck and congratulations on your new job.
