I felt sick at the idea of birth my entire life and would have vomited/fainted watching a birthing video until I hit 24 y.o. and suddenly it seemed not only possible but magical. I don’t have experience yet but I’ve seen many videos and they make me cry from happiness and wishing it was me haha!!
I think education helped me a lot. For example, learning that the baby’s head is soft to help push through, that the pain comes and goes in waves giving you a break between contractions (I though labour was solid, unrelenting agony for 9+ hours!!!!), that you can practise stretching your vagina during late pregnancy to help prevent tears, learning that the muscles do the work for you in a natural birth so there are some women who barely need to push at all. Do some research and it might elate some fears you have!!

I am just seeing your response now – thank you for your kind words, but this post was from five years ago! I have a darling 3 year old daughter and 1.5 year old son! Time flies ❤️

If you’re willing, can you explain how you went from your original post to being a mom to two adorable little ones? What was your journey like between being terrified and finally deciding to go for it?
