Wow, I am so in the same boat! No ring but we have decided we are getting married next fall and he is away until the end of October so no proposal any time soon. I almost bought a dress online today and…then I came to my senses lol!

If it’s not normal I’m in trouble!!! Lol we know marriage is in the near futurerings the ring is probably still 9 months to a year away… But I have my colors, venue, guest book ideas, etc. all picked out. I was never like this before. I think a lot of it is excitement because we finally found the “one”

@megs102:  I agree, finding the one makes it hard to not get excited about planning the future!

@Flutters:  I’ve been a good girl and resisted … but I’ve definitely been tempted! 😉

One caution I would ask you to consider is that if you are not actually having the wedding for a couple of years you really should wait to get your dress or go dress shopping until you are about a year out or less.  There have been so many threads I’m sure you’ve seen on this board about a woman who bought her dress, had a long engagement and suffered from dress regret because either their personal style evolved or because their ideas of a perfect wedding changed.  In your head you might think a beach wedding is perfect, for example, but in two years you might abhore the idea and prefer a winery wedding where that dress you bought for the beach would look inapropriate.

Just food for thought.

I bought my dress before the proposal!!! It was pre owned though so I couldn’t let it get away! The hard part was keeping it a secret 😉 but like @Bunny82 said, be careful because “your dress” today might not be your dress in 2 years, or appropriate for the venue you chose.

@Flutters:  i was obsessed at one point about the dress and still ocassionally watch say yes to the dress for fun and giggles, but for the most part, without the bling, there’s no point, at least in my case lol(he ‘s no where near proposal or anything as far as i know and i’ve been waiting since 2010-2011 so i’m kinda over it lol)

I love looking at dresses but I change my mind weekly on what I like or what I might want so I’m sort of glad I don’t have to make any decisions yet. No harm in having a browse!

I was bridesmaids shopping this summer with a friend and she wanted me to try on some wedding dresses with her since she knows I’m up next, but I refused. I really want my first time trying on to be with my mother, officially shopping to buy!

I love looking though!

I think there’s nothing wrong with browsing, but I’d never actually go shopping for one yet.  In the past year I’ve had roughly 3 dresses picked out that were totally “THE DRESS”.  Today I can’t even picture myself in the dresses I used to have my heart set on.  I figure now is the perfect time to test out these ideas in my head, so once I go shopping for real I’ll be ready.

I love looking at dresses online. It is so amazing to look at them and then picture yourself in them feeling like the most beautiful person in the world. The right outfit makes you feel great, just think how awesome you’d feel in an amazing, formal gown?!
