I don’t plan on changing my name whenever I get married. And the boyfriend nixed hyphenation…and he’s right because it would sound silly. But my name is cool. So I will keep it.

I admit i will miss my last name it kinda has a certain ring to it, but i am excited to have his last name. The only thing i am not looking forward to is changing all my documents and notifying different companies.

I’m a little nervous about it, of course – all the documents, and having to remember to use it, etc. – but I’m also quite excited.  My last name is at the very end of the alphabet and extremely difficult to spell/pronounce, whereas my Boyfriend or Best Friend has a pretty traditional English last name.  He occasionally calls me “Future Mrs. HisLastName,” and I love it.  I’ll keep my last name as a middle name, and I’ll always consider myself a MyLastName, but I’m excited to change it to make our own family together.

@egb: Sorry for the unfortunate rhyme, but it makes me think of the movie The Wedding Singer with Julia Gulia. lol.

I’m sure it’s more noticeable to you than to others if it’s similar to your example though!

I am!  Even though I am hyphenating, I’m super excited to be a HyphenSmith!

Nope.  I’m keeping my name and adding my mom’s maiden name too. But I can understand why you are excited–congrats!

His name actually fits on forms!  True, it sounds like a food item (“Hoagie?  Is that an unfortunate nickname?” “No, it’s his real last name.”)  And no one can pronounce either of our names correctly…  But it’s three letters shorter.

I am excited, yet nervous at the same time. I don’t think there was even a discussion if I was going to take his name or not. I think he just assumed that I would. Which is okay. lol. I am going to miss my last name…. My father had two girls so our last name dies with us on this side of the family… but at the same time I want to be Mrs.T Hislastname. I was thinking of possibly having 4 names. T lyn mylastname hislastname.. but i dunno. We will see.. I may just be T lyn hislastname..

    So yes; I am excitedSmile

Very excited! Now people will only misprononce my first name instead of both

I am. I never liked my maiden name. I have it changed so far on everything but my credit cards and student loans.
