I caught the last 20 minutes and was horrified by the young girls dancing!

I have only seen the commercials, and wow, it looks mind-numbing. I think it looks like a mixture of Lady Gaga & an Alice in Wonderland acid trip.

Ummm….this is pretty disturbing. The little girls dressing that way and dancing like strippers was pretty awful. Wow.

I am watching it, and I am not exactly sure what to think. It is their culture, and we have to respect that; however, unless you grew up that way, it would be a very difficult life to live.

I watched both hours and was glued to the television the entire time! I’m always amazed at different cultures. Those wedding dresses were….WOW! One weighed 70 lbs! Very interesting show. But I wish they would get more into they why of it all. Like, why are the little girls all spray tanned and made up with full faces of make up and in 3 inch heels….when they are SEVEN?! Wow!

I am an addict of this show! I love it.

But I am perplexed at how they afford all that elaborateness when some of their trailers don’t have toilets?

I find it interesting.  I do not like the “hookery” outfits they wear sometimes on that show, and how they get married so young, that makes me sad.  it seems the women/young ladies really have not many opportunities as most of them seem to have to drop out of school to help raise the younger ones of the family.

But Yes, I must admit, i am an addict! I have my DVR set to record it.

I enjoy watching the show, the british and americanversions. I appreciate the way they raise their children with such strong morals, but the outfits are a bit much sometimes. Well you can look on the bright side, they’re not forced into it….it’s their choice to continue their culture and traditions regardless of how “unusual” they may seem to non gypsies/romanis/travellers.

My Bf is perplexed by them though, they’ll marry the first guy they kiss but they’ll dress to such lenghts (or lack of length):)

I watched a documentary one time on gypsy weddings. I am not sure if it was by tlc or not. Their morals are kinda wacky to me. The girls will dress so trashy but won’t kiss or anything like that. Then the boys say how high morals their girls have, but they interviewed the young boys and asked what they would do if the girls wouldn’t kiss them. They answered that they would smack them a little to get them to kiss them. That is contridictory and wacky to me. To me, I would much rather girls kiss lots of boys than get beaten for not giving it up…

@MissCT:  I agree, it’s like they go overboard on both ends. Theye’ll be ultra-consertive, but dress ultra-revealing. I also don’t really like the double standards, as boys can do whatever they want but not get judged. But the way the families seem to protect their girls (almost like property to me), the boy that tried to take advantage of their daughter may have overstepped his limits and have some consequences to face. I don’t know often that would happen though, since they always seem to be supervised or chaperoned even if it’s by a younger sibling.

they don’t have toilets in their trailers because they don’t deem it clean not because they can’t afford them.

gotta say I enjoy the Irish travelers more than the romeys (sorry for the misspell) I feel with the travelers they go into more explaiantion of thsir traditions and the issues they currently face (such as the eviction of dale farm) as for the American version showing the romeys all it’s showing is big wedding dresses, short other dresses, and them drunk.  ya the travelers have the same dress which is part of the enjoyment but they also explain the culture and current events!  I feel they’re shown in a better light than the romeys

I caught half of one episode the other night and couldn’t tell if it was foreal or not! Lol it’s just so bizarre how hookerish these girls dress yet talk about how trashy it is to kiss a boy before marriage! And getting married at 17 with some boy you’ve only met twice?? What the hell are these people thinking! Lol it’s just weird all around. I tried to look the rommy girls or whatevertheir called and couldn’t find anything. Anyone else know much about this culture or where their from??
