Yes, I get them about twice a year, especially when im stressed.  Abreva usually works for me if i put it on RIGHT when i feel the tingling…but my friend says what works better is getting some antivirals from the MD.  So i intend on asking my doctor before the wedding to prescribe acyclovir or something just in case.

I don’t get coldsores, but when I’m stressed, I break out right around my mouth (I actually thought they were cold sores for the longest time, since they’re so common, until I actually got tested and the tests came back negative). I’ve got a spot treatment on reserve if that happens.

Acyclovir is a good idea, though. I’ve also heard lysine supplements work for some people?

I have gotten them my whole life and tried every prescription and OTC. A few years ago I tried L lysine and it has worked the best for me. Starting about 2 weeks before the weding I started the lysine and a daily dose of acyclovir. On a usual basis I just use the lysine, but wanted the back up of the acyclovir.

I do also use Abreva too in the rare case one actually pops out.

I used to get them more frequently when I was younger, but its been 2 years since I got one.  I’m always worried during the winter since it seems they pop as it gets dry and my lips become chapped, and having a winter wedding it was a small concern.  I just made sure my lips were constantly moisturized and drank plenty of water.  Last time I got one I used Abreva as well, and it did help heal it much quicker.

I get them several times a year especially when stressed but I have a Rx now that works great for me.  I think someone mentioned it above, but I do plan on taking lysine vitamins before my wedding.  That has a wonderful effect on lip health.
