@jennmariee:  I wouldn’t do that. But I like to be in control, especially with something like that.

The hotel choice would be enough of a surprise for me, not the location of the honeymoon itself. You guys should at least talk about some options and have a set region in mind, so you’re not thinking Caribbean island and he books something in Europe! Just make sure you’re on the same page of style (relaxing vs sightseeing, beach vs city, etc) and you should be okay.

It’s an awesome idea if he’s a planner type.  I would LOVE that.  Would he think of all the necessaries (accommodations, car/transportation, plans for restaurants, plans for sights, etc)?  A good compromise might be to have a discussion about things you would both like (honeymoon suite? In room hot tub? Tropical island vs other location?) and maybe things that you 100% have to have to make it feel like your honeymoon, and then let him go from there.  That way, you make sure you have what you absolutely need to be satisfied with the trip, and then let yourself be flexible about the rest.

@jennmariee:  FI’s  cousin had a surprise honeymoon.  she gave her husband 4 choices and told him to pick and make all the arrangements.  she didn’t find out which of the 4 places until they were boarding the plane.

@ajillity81:  Yea, something like this would be better. Since you know you would want to go to the places and are on the same page.

Heck no. My DH did plan most of our honeymoon because it was more his thing. I gave up my relaxing beach honeymoon for his ski honeymoon. I’m a high maintanence traveller, I admit it. I’m picky about where I stay, and so my only condition was that I had veto power on where we stayed. He planned everything, showed me some options for condos and I picked the one I liked.

I could never let him suprise me.

I would never, because thinking about what I’m gonna do, researching and getting anxious is half the fun for me

I like it sounds like a fun idea. Personally, though, I wouldn’t be able to do it because I am SUCH a planner and planning a trip is almost as fun as being on one for me 🙂

My Fiance is surprising me!  I’m really excited for it.  He asked my input, (beach or woods, activites I might want to participate in, even showed me a few pictures of different resorts) so I know it’s the sort of honey moon I had in mind, I just have no idea where 🙂

I think it depends, if you guys have the same idea about what type of honeymoon you want. I also think if you truly give up control and are completely open and don’t have insane expectations about how or where he does it, then it would work out fine.

My husband surprised me with our honeymoon.  I left that the planning to him.  We went to Playa de Carmen for a week, we had activities everyday and also had time for a spa day.  Best trip to date, we are hoping to go back some time soon.  Too many things to do and discover.
