I love “Ave Maria” by Beyonce. It is so beautiful. I was going to have it played during my signing of the register, or during my sand ceremony. Be honest bees….is it too much of a funeral song. ( I know the original might be, but I hope the beyonce isn’t too sad) Let me know what you think. (you tube it, if you can) don’t know how to share the link on here.

The instrumental Ave Maria is used in a lot of Catholic weddings. It is a very beautiful, emotional and moving song. For me though, it does tend to be emotional in a heart-wrenching (rather than joyous) sort of way. I didn’t vote, b/c I can’t decide whether it reminds me of a funeral or is sad enough to nix it.

Ava Maria isn’t sad. I love it!

Some versions of Ave Maria are sadder than others. The popular version by Bach/Gounod isn’t sad at all, but the version by Caccini sounds pretty solemn.

i love the Bach/Gounod version and don’t think it’s sad at all. :] some versions are, but it’s all about context.

A few members of my high school choir sang Ave Maria at the wedding of a teacher’s daughter. I think it’s beautiful, and most everyone agreed.

If you don’t use the Palestrina: Offertoria version by Richard Marlow & the Choir of Trinity College, I hope someone else does, because this is what I’d always dreamed of for my wedding! My ceremony site won’t play it (Heinz Chapel in Pittsburgh, very picky organists) but this versions brings tears to my eyes every time. It is THE most beautiful version of Ave Maria I’ve ever heard, and not sad at all – it’s glorious!

Technically, ‘Ave Maria’ is the Mother Mary’s song for when she died. Just a thought. But who also wouldn’t want Mary’s blessing? It’s still widely used as a wedding song, if not the most popular one. It’s especially poignant if you are honoring any people who have passed on. 🙂

I guess it does depend on who is performing it but my first instinct is to say that yes, it is too sad.

there are sooo many good versions of this song. my sister walked down to ave maria back in 2000..im thinking of doing it myself
being catholic – mary is an important part of our faith so i see it as a perfect opportunity to use this song.

Our soloist sang Ave Maria while we were signing the register. It has special meaning to us, as it was my grandmother’s favourite song, but it’s also just generally quite moving. It was absolutely beautiful and we got a ton of compliments. Go for it!

The Sarah Brightman version is BEAUTIFUL and doesn’t sound as sad as some other versions. I love Ave Maria.
