    Color- the brighter the better!

    Clarity- the less imperfections the better!

    I cant tell the difference either way!

    If you can’t tell the difference between the two, then I recommend getting the lower quality/lower cost diamond. Actually, I suggest getting the one you think is the prettiest to the naked eye, because that’s how you’re going to be looking at for the rest of your life.

    People say that diamonds are an investment, but that’s not really true, because people rarely sell their diamonds for profit.

    For myself, clarity was a bit more important than color, but only because I have an emerald cut, and it is much easier to see inclusions in an emerald cut than in other shapes because of the step cut. You can see right into emerald cuts with the naked eye.

    I am really sensitive to color, so I would go with the higher color if you really can’t see the inclusions on either stones.

    RE: “I understand that diamonds with less the SI clarity are usually cloudy and the inclusions are quite visible.

    “SI” stands for “slightly inclusioned”. From BlueNile: Imperfections are visible under 10x magnification, and may be visible with the unaided eye. A good diamond value.

    More from BlueNile: Because these imperfections tend to be microscopic, they do not generally affect a diamond’s beauty in any discernible way.

    It’s the “I”s  where the inclusions become quite visible and seen by the naked eye.

    Here’s the magification of my SI1 diamond, the little red arrow points out the inclusion, yep, one little tiny fleck that I personally can’t even see even under a jeweler’s loupe.

    @jeye

    As long as you have a GIA or AGS certification, I feel fairly confident saying there will be NO difference in sparkle b/w a VS and SI grade diamond, provided they are both excellent cuts.  As mentioned, CUT determines sparkle, not clarity… unless you get a stone with visible inclusions.
