If you are well along in your planning or have already been married, do you feel that Cost of Wedding.com’s predictions are/were fairly accurate? I am at the very beginning of the planning process and am try to get a feel for what to expect monetarily.
If you are unfamiliar with the website Cost of Wedding.com, you enter your Zipcode and it tells you the average price for a wedding in your area, or you can get more detailed and check off boxes based on what you plan to spend money on for your wedding. The information that it provides is powered by The Wedding Report, Inc., “a research company that tracks and forecasts number of weddings, spending, and consumer trends for the wedding industry.”
The most basic prediction based only on my Zipcode said $19,000 – $33,000 and an average of 150 guests. That’s quite a wide gulf but I live in a city with several income brackets represented.

we’re spending way more haha but we’re also having 300 people.

We spent less, but I feel this is way off.

ETA- I saw it breaks it down by cost (photographer, flowers, attire) and feel this is much more realistic. I can see where girls spent this amount, but left out some of the categories. We were married on my parents farm so the venue was pretty much free and our jewelery was way under budget because we went with very simple bands.

for my area it says:
“spend between $18,726 and $31,210 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 120 and 134. A single guest could add between $177 and $216 to the overall cost of your wedding.”
and thats why i’m going to vegas ladies.
i do feel like its fairly accurate. my friend is paying about $16,000 for her reception and ceremony. no cake. no photog. no dj. has to supply her own officiant.

It says our range is between $27,209 – $45,349 for 252 – 265 guests. Our budget is within that amount, however, it’s for 80 guests. Eek! Then again, I’m not sure if that budget includes the same items as our.

Okay. Mine is difficult since I am combining two states. My venue and some of my vendors will be from WV and the others will be in Pittsburgh. (it’s only a 20 min drive from each other)
WV-$14,530 and $24,216 (for 98-112 guests)
PA -$18,726 and $31,210 (for 122-136 guests)
It really is funny how the area works. The country club down the street from my house has a $2500 rental fee, dinner plates start at $50, buffet starts at $60 while the country club in WV is only $400 rental fee, plates start at $19, and buffet starts at $25. Even the rental items are higher in Pittsburgh. A tent at one rental company in Pittsburgh is $1000 and the same tent in WV is $500. Crazy.
We are trying to only spend $10k

I live in Las Vegas and I can see those of us who live here having high-ish costs, but I hardly think their estimate is accurate with all of the elopments and small weddings that people who travel here tend to have. Our max budget is well below $16,786, their low end, let alone their high end of $27,976! Their estimates are for between 142 and 156 guests.

based on the budget predictor, (with all the additional details checked off), the website predicts $36,524 and $60,873. And we are definitely falling in to that bracket. However if I just enter our zipcode then the range is too low.

We got a low priced venue and still spent a bit more than what wedding.com estimates for our area.

Yeah… not so much. My zip code says about $18,000 to $30,000 for around 140 guests. We’ll be at a third of the lower number, but with about half that many guests. So, I don’t know, I guess that means they would expect $9,000 for our count? Maybe not that far off.

That was pretty accurate, especially if you go through the breakdown. The general estimate by zipcode was pretty close, but the other one was much closer, and the individual estimates were pretty on target also. This would have prevented me from having so much protographer and DJ sticker shock. 🙂

Pretty accurate. The average for me is between $20,500 and $34,500 for 131-145 guests. We’re spending about $45k for 180 guests.

for 150ish guests it say about 20-32k in my area.. we had 100 guests and were around the 30k mark so no, because if I added 50 more guests it would have been more like 40k+

definately spending a bit more.
