I’d skip the lights and save the money! If he’s a good DJ, he’ll be able to get people on the dance floor without lights. 🙂

@llamadrama:  I am skipping the lights because our venue doesn’t allow outside vendors to do uplighting. THey have their own lighting and operate it themselves. THey wanted to charge us an extra $500! So that is one reason we are not doing the uplighting and the colors they have make it look more sweet 16ish.

I’ve never heard of a DJ charging more for lighting.  That being said…no, don’t pay the extra, nobody will miss it.

@Fall_In_Love22:  rEALly? All the DJs I interviewed charged extra (in my area at least). But it ended up not being allowed by the venue. and as I stated our venue wanted to charge us an extra $500. And literally all they are doing, is flipping a damn switch! Its such a waste.

@llamadrama:  Uplight can be worth the extra cost. My DJ threw ours in for free last minute. He put them in nooks of the posts we had running along our barn venue in our wedding colors, and it was super cool. However, just dance floor lighting and not uplighting, I think is a bit of a waste. My friend had a dance globe type of light at his wedding, and it honestly just looked silly. Save the $200 for something that means more to you!

Not a chance. I couldn’t mention one wedding I’ve been to and remember whether or not they had projected lights. Spend the money elsewhere for sure!

We did uplighting and loved it. I understand that isn’t what you are offered. With what your DJ’s offered, I would say no. It hardly seems worth the money.

Uplighting can be really pretty at a wedding, but having flashing lights for just the dance floor sounds more “clubby” than weddingy to me. But, I’m not sure what type of wedding atmosphere you are going for.

Also, we didn’t have any additional lighting at our wedding and it was beautiful!
