I keep hearing about diamond shrinkage a lot and have heard people here say they are experiencing diamond shrinkage. Is that really a true thing?
the funny thing is, most people I’ve read saying they have DSS are people with insanely huge diamonds like 1.7-2.5ct…😊 Haha mine won’t be anywhere near that so I really hope i don’t experience this DSS thing

milabeehappy: I had no issues with this. I have had my ring for over 4 years and still enjoy looking at it.
I wonder if some of it just comes from a place of jealousy and spending too much time looking at other ringsand comparing their ring to other rings.

Yeah, I agree with MrsBeck- I think it’s a bunch of crap that comes from a place of needing to keep up with the Jones.

I serously do not understand those threads when they pop up

Nope… Love my diamond so much 🙂

Idk maybe it’s a thing for some people, but I’ve experienced the opposite myself, so I don’t like when I see advice here that’s like “ALWAYS GO BIGGER! DSS IS SO REALLLLLLL” because it really doesn’t happen to everyone.

While I do think it has a KUWTJ factor, diamond shrinkage (to me) is more of a diminished value thing, similar to how the more coffee you drink, the less potent an espresso seems.

I’m actually experiencing the opposite as well. I’m needing to downsize but my Fiance wants to keep the ring he proposed with.

I had shrinkage after the first 3 months or so. Then I wanted to go smaller. And now it seems fine (I don’t wear it all the time though). Darling Husband says I never know what I want… Apparently he is right 😉

I’ve got a half carat with a halo and honestly my centre stone looks bigger to me recently than it did at first. I’m in the UK and women here are not competitive about ring size- diamonds are way too expensive and we don’t do moissanite or other diamondy stones so anything of half a carat or more will draw compliments on size! 🙂 This whole shrinkage thing is strange to me.

Some people feel the need to keep up. I do shudder when I read about people “upgrading” when they haven’t even married yet. That’s just greed repackaged.
milabeehappy: Often the ones who have the most toys are the least happy. As the saying goes, it’s better to want what you have than have what you want. Especially when what you want is MORE.

milabeehappy: I have a small stone- .31 carat, and I think that diamond shrinkage is crap. Maybe you get used to have a huge stone on your hand, i dont think DSS is a real thing

milabeehappy: I did read a thread about a woman who got her delicious and quite large (for me huge) stone set into a halo and *plop* it really did appear much smaller. It was supposed to be the other way around. 🙄

I don’t think my ring looks any smaller now than when I first got it but what I have noticed is I’m less aware of it and the more I get used to it, the more it ‘fits’ me better.
This could be what people are experiencing.
