Personally, I think the empire waist looks like it’s trying to hide pregnancy.  i don’t like how the line sit on the body…any body.

An A-line is most flattering on most body types.

NOOOOOOOOOO. Empire waist dresses look good on very few people IMO. Anything that nips in the waist and then flows out from the hips usually is the most flattering on most people!

Yikes, no. I’m on the petite side and empire waist dresses make me look ridiculous. I agree with PP that an a-line/natural waist dress is actually your best bet.

Empire waist is  not flattering on everyone… With an hourglass figure, I look terrible in empire! It’s probably the only silhouette I cannot wear. I would think something that hits the natural waist would be the most flattering silhouette across the board.

concordbee :  Same. I’m very petite and end up looking pregnant in empire waists.

OP, I think a long, subtle fit-and-flare tends to look good on everyone.

bibbithebee :  I’d talk to them once you choose them and see what they think– most women know what looks good on them, and they can steer you in the right direction. I picked out three dresses and since I only have four bridesmaids, it was easy for them to try the picks on and agree on one style they could all live with.

Why dont you all go try on dresses and see what they feel comfortable in.

The mismatched trend is big right now, so you could go that route. Or as a good in-between option, you can pick a certain color and fabric and have each bridesmaid choose the silhouette they like best.

EDIT: just saw that mismatched is a no-go. I still think the not *quite* mismatched option would be a good compromise though.

bibbithebee :  i typically think it’s flattering on *no* body types…but it is a silhouette that most women with insecurties about their midsections tend to gravitate towards to “hide” (but that doesn’t mean it actually looks good). imo, it tends to look like maternity wear.

bippidyboppidyboo :  100% agree.  I only think they look good on tiny tall women and pregnant women.
