@ally29:

Im having a balloon wedding. My balloons will be covered in lace. I think theres nothing tacky about them but to differentiate from kids parties I have a few rules

  • No shiny stuff

  • Perfectly round

  • Keep them oversized

  • Not too many colours

  • Less is better

examples

balloon held up by tulle not string

a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Ive seen this done on a smaller scale too

I think the trick partly would be not to used colored baloons, only white and or clear maybe silver or gold balloons.
I think any colors would quickly turn it into a birthday party look or a prom look.

To me it is because I see them as very casual and most appropriate for children.

How about beautifully-crafted paper flowers, or some other tasteful adult-formal decor?

I love balloons, and I love a lot of the inspiration photos on this thread! I think it can be done totally tastefully! 🙂

@CARA1978:  +1

@ally29:  I really think its all how they are displayed….if not careful it can look really dated as some of the examples above. But I do think if done right they can be very beautiful!

For example this looks very prom-like

NOOOOO

NOOOOO

This one is a YESSS

Also there is the option of chinese lanterns

Or you could use something like these
