Vendors book up pretty quickly in LA and we only have an 11 month engagement so we jumped on a lot of the first ones we looked at while they were still available for our date. I have a wedding coordinator though, so she gave her top recommendations and they are all very highly regarded so it wasn’t that tough to make fast decisions.

All my vendors were the first vendors I met with, BUT I am an older bride and was familiar with my other options.

The venue was a no brainer based on budget and what we were looking for, but we did look at two options. For my florist, cake and DJ, I went through vendors who have done my sister’s or friends weddings and are very highly regarded in my area in general. My photographer had really good reviews online and a great portfolio, and I was not a fan of the photography from other friends and families weddings, we decided to take a chance. The Justice of the Peace was something where we weren’t sure where to start, but we looked at profiles, picked one, and went with her because we really liked her upon meeting her.

As long as they have good reviews, a good track record/reputation in your area, and you like them, I wouldn’t necessarily feel the need to search around forever!

I think it just depends on whether you like what you see! I saw 4 venues, 1 DJ, 1 photographer, 5 makeup artists, 1 wedding dress store, and 2 florists. We’re planning in 9 months so it’s averaging out to about 1 “project” per weekend-florists are taking a while because we split it up over the holidays, and I don’t like it haha.

I think it definitely depends on the kind of person you are, in addition to what bees before me have mentioned.  I know that I am very very regretful person (my anxiety makes me “what-if” a lot) so I decided to shop around before booking things.  Although, I did end up going with the first venue and photographer I contacted, it helped ease my mind to confirm that there wasn’t anything better out there.  My fiance is also my first boyfriend, first kiss, etc. so I’m convinced I’m just destined to firsts lol!
