My Fi and I are going to be married in Hawaii and we would like to have our family and friends over for a (?) gathering when we return. We have both had the big wedding/reception with our first weddings and we just wanted our wedding to be about us. We are in our 50’s and not sure what to call this event? Any suggestions?

If you want to call it a reception, I think you definitely can. With something like that, you can get away with calling whatever you want.
A friend of mine eloped (basically) and immediately moved across the country to be with her husband. They’re coming back and having a party in a couple months, and she’s been calling it a reception.

I just got back from my honeymoon in Hawaii, it is so beautiful! What a perfect place for a wedding!
I think that you could call it a reception or a party but it depends on your vibe. If you want it to be more formal/serious with a focus on your wedding and a cake and centerpieces, etc. then I would call it a reception. If you want it to be more casual and less about the wedding and more about just hanging out with friends and family then I would call it a party. Either sounds good to me.

We are having a “celebration of love” on our one year anniversary. We got married on the beach with just us two there. Now we are having a celebration of our love, (which is really the whole ponit of everyone being there, to celebrate your love for each other) with all of our friends and family. Who says it has to be immediately after or months or years after. Call it whatever suits you guys best, those that love and support you know what it is and will be there no matter what.
