No, you’re fine.  Just take your prenatals and eat what you can keep down and appeals to you.  Baby takes nutrients from you, plus the baby is so very tiny at this point it doesn’t really need anything.  Calcium, iron, and DHA are important but more so in the second and third trimesters.  I couldn’t even cook (or look at or prep food AT ALL) during my first trimester so you can imagine what a “great” diet I had lol.

I thought you were going to say you were only eating potato chips and fried chicken or something 🙂 It sounds like you’re doing really well, I think, personally.  I think starving yourself would definitely be a bad choice, but you’re already aware of that and have avoided it.  So you’re doing just fine, in my opinion.  I’m sure some nutritionist minded Bees might be able to giv you better tips if needed than I can!

In the first trimester I was completely off veg too and only wanted “beige” foods like poratoes, bread, pasta, cheese etc but by the second trimester it got better. My DS came out just fine and is doing great at 18 months. Take your prenatals and eat what you can stomach and just try to pick the healthier options when possible (i.e. boiled potatoes over french fries) and you’ll be fine.

Just make sure your prenatal has folic acid.

First trimester is strictly about survival for me. I usually eat pretty well and I’m a huge foodie, but I have very strong nausea and food aversion  and I turn into a picky 4 year old for the first 20+ weeks.  You are doing great, keep on the good work!

I assure you that no matter how much you see on the interwebs, most normal people are not eating 5 veggies a day, drinking their weight in water, or eating all that fruit in general, let alone when pregnant.

I’m sure you’re fine, as long as you have a nice balance of foods and aren’t living off of just Doritos.  Baby will most likely not let you starve yourself…I’d be more concerned about that eating pattern, binging and then fasting can wreak havoc on your metabolism and internal organs/hormones/etc.

I think you’ll be fine with your prenatal vitamin. Do you shop at Costco? My Fiance and I take this drink from Costco that has loads of good vitamins and minerals, I can’t quite remember what it’s called but all you have to do is take a shot of it every morning and you have all your veggies for the day (minus the fibre that actual veggies give you). If you think you could stomach that then it’s always a good alternative 🙂

I only ate a bagel and Mac and cheese every day during my first trimester, and usually vomitted most of it. So…. I definitely wasn’t eating healthy at all. Third tri now and baby is growing perfectly and healthy! I wouldn’t worry about it, just try your best 🙂

Itsnotme :  don’t worry, you’re not doing badly at all!!! 🙂

What you can do to up your veggies intake is to use the cheats for children. For example, I do bolognese with half the meat and pile it up with small diced veggies (carrots, courgettes, mushrooms…..). Tricks like that are great!

Itsnotme :  I wasn’t big on veggies and fruit the first trimester either-I ate a lot of cereal and pb and J sandwhices.  I’ve been getting better the second trimester.  It sounds like you are doing good!

The first trimester was more of a “I’m going to eat what I can without wanting to throw up” mentality for me. So the fruits and veggies were of no interest. I loved carbs, bagels and toast were my friends. Yogurt was delicious too. Just take your prenatal and keep doing what you’re doing. You aren’t doing bad at all, I’d say you’re doing better than most!

The first trimester is tough, I was barely able to eat any high protein foods and survived off of carbs and fruit due to food aversions, but in the second trimester I was able to eat normally again. Take your pre-natal vitamins and try to choke down some fruit and veggies in any way you can, smoothies, soups, hidden in other foods etc.
