I don’t think it’s bad at all, especially if you love your dress!

I actually bought mine 15 months before the wedding too (we had a 2.5 year engagement) and THANK GOD because the shipping company went on strike and a dress that was supposed to take 6-7 months to come in took ELEVEN MONTHS!!!!

So even though it took my dress nearly a year to come in, it still got here 5 months before the wedding lol

@soh12:  I can’t tell you it’s ”too soon” in general, because I already bought mine and my wedding is still 1.5 year down the road. I just happened to find a dress I liked over classified ads, it was unexpensive and I liked it immediately when I tried it on. I knew I wouldn’t find anything similar at that price, it didn’t seem like waiting any longer was necessary.

However, what concerns me in your message is that you started your thread by saying ”me and my fiance have had our ups and downs”. Maybe I’m over-interpretating, but it sounds to me as though there are issues between the two of you and that might be why some of your friends thought it was ”too soon”, not because it’s never a good thing to buy ahead, but because maybe your relationship appears to be rocky.

I bought mine 14 months out.  It’s a sample, so its hanging in my parents’ house.

No regret (though I have stopped looking at dresses, just in case.)

I have a lot of our wedding planned already (booked, deposits paid, vendors sourced, etc.)  I hear a lot of ‘wow, its so early.’ And I’ve taken a lot of ribbing about it.  But 1) I’m a planner by nature and LOVE THIS!  2) I won’t have to rush around right before the wedding.  3) I’ve sourced out great deals and I don’t want to lose them by waiting.

@soh12: Why does it matter? As long as you love your dress and you get it in time, YAY! I got my dress 16 months in advance, but it was 75% off and a classic style, so I felt more than comfortable taking the leap.

What if the dress got discontinued? I saw an awesome Vera Wang White at DB for ~$200 but it was gone by the time I got around to dress shopping. Part of me regrets it because it was so my style, but the other part of me is happy because my dress works too!

@soh12:  I did the same thing! there is no shame if you love it you love it! Just dont online shop for wedding dresses anymore there will be new styles that will tempt you! just remember how much you love it! I get in mine every chance I get!

If you love the dress and know its “the one” then don’t let other people try to talk you out of it for the silly reason of “its too early”. Its your dress!!

If you love the dress then it makes perfect sense to have it in your closet. The thing is, especially with so much time to go, if you were to find a dress you end up preferring you could always sell your current one and buy the new one instead. If your funds will allow for this. But it’s an option.

Consider the alternative, you don’t buy the dress and then when you go dress shopping you don’t find anything that you like half as much! You would really regret letting the one you loved get away.
