I would suggest going and trying dresses on somewhere before so you know what styles you like and what works on your body.

I agree with @mishelleez plus you need to make sure it is a credible company. I have heard of dresses coming in completely wrong because people ordered them from sites that made them in china and so on. Also when you find one you like I would contact the people from the site to ask about sizing and any other detailed things you would need to know.

First, do lots of shopping to make sure you know the exact dress you want.  Then, contact Best Bridal Prices, Pearl’s Place and other highly recommended websites.  I would avoid misc. places or eBay vendors unless you are comfortable with their reviews.  If you have a reputable local store that carries the dress you want, but is more expensive than a reputable website, ask them to meet the online price. I bought my dress from yourdreamdress.com and was thrilled with what I got.

I bought mine on ebay through a Chinese tailor and am SUPER happy with it. Check out my posts about it if you want to read more. 🙂

I had a horrible experience when I ordered a relica dress online. I agree you should try on dresses 1st to get a feel for what you like. Then BEFORE ordering, check for a BBB report and if there are any consumer complaints for the business. Nothing worse than dreaming about a beautiful dress and then being horribly disappointed. With a little care, you will end up with a gorgeous dress!

Like the others have said, it is best if you go to a store and try on dresses there to get a feel for cuts and styles that look best on you. Then use the web to do research on prices. You can also use the web to research for alternative styles that are inexpensive (if you are budget conscious), pre-owned gowns or for similarly styled dresses so that you have a variety to choose from. Frankly I would use the Made in China replica websites as my last alternative. If you use them, look for referrals.

even gowns in catologues might look a little different on your body, the pictures are also posed perfectly…..so you might not really get to see what the dress truly looks like, if you know what I mean

It depends on your body type, and if you know what looks good on you.  Also, “online” is a broad term.
