Is it harder or more risky to TTC closer to 30?

I got pregnant first try at 31 and 33 but it took a full year when we started trying at 28. I think age related fertility issues generally increase closer to 40 than 30. But some women will have problems conceiving regardless of age so it really is a crapshoot.

No, fertility does not decline for most women until after 35, closer to 40 even.  My husband is from a small rural midwest town and most of his classmates had kids in their early 20s.  I’m from a larger town (still midwest) and I had classmates that both had kids early and a LOT that waited until around 30. Out of my close circle of friends I was one of the first to have a kid at 29 (2 months before 30 actually).  To be honest, most people that waited longer to have kids are better off financially than those that had kids early (certainly not all, but most).

I got pregnant at 29 the first time we had unprotected sex and my second I got pregnant at 31 very quickly (we got pregnant about a month before I wanted to “officially” start trying again).  My mother had me at 31 and had twins at 34 and got pregnant easily with both.  I have 2 close friends that got pregnant with 2 kids each very easily (at 30-33 age range).  I also have friends that struggled and needed IVF even at 30. So you never know, but odds/statistics are that most people get pregnant within 6 months of trying (up to a year).

No. Get married first and financially comfortable before you even think about trying for a baby. Bible Belt states have high levels of young parents, and also high rates of divorce. Rushing things doesn’t end well.

watch adam ruins everything, season 2, episode 1 about babies.  it talks about how fertility decline at 30 is based on very old statistics.

it’s not like all of a sudden your eggs are good and then one day they are bad.  plenty of women have no issues getting pregnant into their 40’s.

I had a baby 2 years ago at 40. In my moms group there are many who had babies in late 30’s. Im not even the oldest mom.

Confused about the fear of your hypothetical child not having any similar-aged friends if you wait til you’re 30 to ttc. Won’t they go to school and stuff?

In my circle, it is very uncommon to have a baby before the age of 30. I had my first at 33 which is pretty average where I’m from.

beeinwaiting1992 :  I just had my first baby at 32. Majority of my friends had their first babies between 30-35 so it’s kind of the norm in my social group. I did see a fertility specialist for reasons that had nothing to do with my age and they did say 35/36 is when they can see fertility decrease but it is different for every women. I know plenty of women who got pregnant after 35 with no issues.  You are still young and should be fine! If you are worried though talk to your OB .
