(Closed) Is it important that your dress be slimming?

NOPE, I just want the dress of my dream and who cares if it doesn't make me look slim!

Absolutely, why wouldn't I want to look my best on my wedding day?

This is not even something I considered while dress shopping

If my dress doesn’t make me look *at least* 30 pounds thinner, I’m not buying it.

    I kid.

20 pounds would be fine too.

I love how the dress looks! I wish other people would look for something FLATTERING vs slimming. You don’t always need that. I think that style of dress looks best on a curvy bride with a nice backside vs someone very slim who is flat back there which I see every day on here.

Bottom line: please don’t doubt your choice bc you look great!

mexicalijennie:  That dress looks amazing on you. I think it should be about how you feel in the dress not how you look.  I knew my dress was ‘the dress’ before I even turned and looked at it in the mirror.  Everything felt so right about it.

I don’t think it needs to be slimming, but it does need to be flattering.  Yours is just that- it looks good on you! don’t let anyone tell you otherwise 🙂

I agree with gelaine22, this dress looks like it’s made for someone with some nice curves like you! It’s a beautiful dress and it looks amazing on you!

To answer your question, it’s not important at all that your dress be slimming, just that it be flattering for your body type. Don’t doubt your choice!

mexicalijennie:  That dress looks out of control on you! It’s super flattering to your figure. As for your question, hell no did I go for something slimming. I wanted to be comfortable and able to move around as opposed to worried about keeping tucked in all night. My dress hits at the natural waist and flows outward. I’m definitely a little chunky, so it’s not like any dress could perform the miracle it would take to make me look like I was 120 pounds. Instead, I went for something flattering.

I think you look great in your dress and I wouldn’t give your friend’s comment a second thought. I’ve got a pretty similar build to you and I didn’t really think about whether something was “slimming” when I was looking for dresses, because that wasn’t really what I was going for. I wanted something that looked good on me, which does not directly translate to slimming. For me, I was looking for something comfortable, elegant, unusual, understated and boobalicious (because my husband loves them!). Slimming wasn’t even on the list.

mexicalijennie:  Flattering is the key word, not “thinner”. From the back, this dress looks killer! You look fantastic, and I wouldn’t give your friend’s comment another thought.

I didn’t necessarily go for something slimming, but I also didn’t go with a ball gown because I felt like they added 10-20 lbs on my frame. That said, I worked hard for my body and wanted to show it off, so I chose something form-fitting. I wanted to accentuate my body, not make it look smaller.

I think you made a great choice!

That dress is incredibly flattering. Slimming – whatever that means. Don’t worry about it, you look stunning in that gown!

I agree with the “flattering” vs. “slimming.” Unfortunately i don’t think ANY dress is going to hide the 5-10 pounds i’d love to lose, but i went with one that looked good on my body.

Oh and i agree, that dress looks AMAZING on you…at least from the back, i’d never guess that you felt the need to be slimmer!

mexicalijennie:  I think it’s very flattering! The fit is amazing.

I voted 2nd option, but more than “slimming,” I did keep in mind flattering, as PP said. I originally wanted something very flowy and ethereal, but I’m very curvy (5’1 and about 130 lbs), but this style just would not have fit my body right.
