Can’t hurt to ask. The worst she can say is No. If she says yes, then you’re set, but if she says no, you’ve already mentioned that you don’t have the funds right now.

If you contact her and ask, I’d really emphasize how much it would mean to you that she be involved with your wedding. It might be better to call and speak with her in person. 

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with explaining your situation and asking, so long as it’s polite and you understand she might have to say no.

It’s worth a shot. Since our wedding was a year+ out when we booked our venue/caterer (they’re combined) they let us split up the deposit over 2 or 3 payments, as long as the downpayment was completed by a certain date. See if that is something they’d be willing to do, just to ease the payment and to make sure that you use their company.

30 percent is a lot for a down payment, so yes I would definitely ask to stagger.

I am surprised that she is booking more than a year from now already.  She must be one hell of a caterer and very in demand!
