- Wedding: September 2012
So I am in LOVE with a caterering service that we had a taste testing with a few weeks back. My wedding isn’t until September 22nd, 2012 but I am on top of things and wanted to get the big items booked as soon as possible. We met with the caterer and she’s everything that we wanted and more (she’ll even make a traditional South Korean dish for our late night snack – my Fiance is Korean). I emailed her when I got home from the tasting to thank her and to let her know that we’re very interested in booking, but that I needed some time to save for the down payment. She told me she’d let me know if there are others that come in to book for the same day as me (apparently she only caters 2 plated weddings per day and she already had one booked). So, of course, the other day I received an email from her saying that someone else had been in to inquire about the same day as me. I wrote back that I am still very interested but that the down payment is out of reach at the moment, but to keep me in the loop.
The down payment she is asking for is 30% of what she quoted us. That’s approximately $4000 for the down payment. My question: do you think it’s inappropriate of me to email her and ask her if it’s possible to stagger the down payment over a few months? My Fiance and I are paying for most of the wedding ourselves (as well as saving for a house at the same time. I think we’re a bit crazy) so I can’t just pull $4000 out of no where at the moment. I don’t want to come across sounding cheap though. Thoughts?
ps – I have tried other tastings but they didn’t impress me as much as the first.
