Or are prom dresses getting sluttier and sluttier?
I was just browsing pictures from the bridal and prom store that I bought my dress at, and I’ve never thought of myself as a prude, but maybe I am, because I would never let my teenage daughter go out in any of these.

This one wouldnt be so bad, if it wasnt for the slit up to her lady bits.

Also, LMAO at this horrible photoshop. They made her head bigger than her body!

@allyfally: HOLY CRAP! My parents would have slain me before I walked out of the house in something like that….PLUS, our daugher certainly didn’t want to go to prom with her whatever all hanging out!

I never thought of myself as a prude, but when I see what young women wear as ‘formal wear’ all I think ‘well, they’re certainly putting it all out there’. I would never go out anywhere dressed like that!

@allyfally: I remember that there were *some* very slutty dresses available and a few select girls would choose them, but in general people at my high school were more about trying to dress to impress than to dress to get elevator eyes….

And just so nobody flags me for saying slutty, I’m not calling the girls sluts. Maybe I should have said “showier and showier.”

@Nona99: I know! My mom wouldnt even let me get a strapless dress, let alone one with all my stuff hanging out!
My daughter would get sent straight back to her room to change, if she tried to leave the house in those.

@Andthepupmakes3: Yeah, most of the dresses I saw were the “typical” prom dresses, like this.

If I could do it again, I’d get something like this. Its so pretty.

You should see some of the “Prom” dresses my husbandes cousin’s wear. It’s so tacky and disgusting. It amazes me that their mom lets them go out like that, but then again there is a LOT about her parenting that makes my mouth drop open.

Ugh, I thought it was bad when I was a kid.
What’s with the garters?!

@MsJ2theZ: Ugh, I can just imagine!
@GooteyBootey: Apparently thats a thing now. I had never heard of them, until about a year ago there was another thread on here about it, and tons of Bees said that they had been around for awhile. I guess we’re just out of the loop.

What exactly is with the garter belts?!?!
I remember seeing things like that (minus the garter belts) in the prom magazines when I was graduating highschool (more than a decade ago) but I never actually saw anyone wear something like that. I figured that that was the sort of thing that the slutty girls in California would wear or something. (I kid, I kid! Although based on showes like 90210 I’ve always had this silly impressino that teenagers in California dress and act much sluttier than everyone else.)

@allyfally: I wouldn’t think most schools would even allow that. Mine sure wouldn’t have, though I went to private school.

@GooteyBootey: I was thinking the same thing! Since when were garters the new thing for prom?! I feel old :-/ OP – I totally agree.
ETA – Just saw the update – are the garters regional perhaps?
