I agree, it is expensive. I have never purchased from there for that reason.

I won’t shop on there because you can make all those things easily for wayyy less. My friend has a shop though and she’s making me something for my son for Christmas and will post it there too so if someone likes it she’ll make it for them as well. It’s kind of like I’m shopping on Etsy lol!  Her shop is cheap but that’s definitely not the norm.

I agree as well. Beautiful stuff, but way over priced. :/

Most stuff there is overpriced and very easy to DIY with the right resources

Some of it is grossly overpriced but much of it seems about right to me. If someone is handmaking it you have to factor labor into it. If people weren’t making money on etsy sellers might lower their prices.. or just not sell, so it must be working out okay for them.

Would I buy pomanders at $10.00 each? no… But when my wedding is over will I be selling them at cost? nope.. I’ll probably charge the going rate for them… and someone will probably(hopefully) buy them. 🙂

I think a lot of it is very reasonable.

I agree its kinda pricey, i also agree its probably overpriced for the labor that goes into it. AND I got all my stuff WAY cheap from other brides and was SO thankful, I am def gonna pay it forward and charge exactly what i paid for

I bought a tonne of stuff from Etsy. For me in Australia, it was actually way cheaper to buy a lot of things on Etsy, even including the international postage, than it would have been to buy it locally. Most things in Australia are way overpriced.

The only thing I bought from Etsy that I considered expensive was my cake toppers, but I never would have been able to make them myself, and they were actually still cheaper and of far better quality than anything available in Australia.

I am an Etsy fan!

A lot of people think they can get away with charging way too much for their time

Yeah… I don’t buy from etsy most of the time. Some sellers are fairly priced and reasonable, but some think way too much of themselves and their time. I’m sorry, but gluing a bow on the front of a $2 white baby onesie and charging $50 for it is redonkulous (I’m not lying. I for real saw this).

@zippylef: I have seen things like that before! Some is priced great but you have to sort threw all of the overpriced crap to find the good stuff!

It’s a site for artists. You’re paying a premium for the product.

As an artist, I look on there to get ideas for my jewelry. Sometimes I buy really unique pieces.

With that being said, some items are priced more than what they should be. But, like I said, you’re paying a premium. It’s not like shopping at a mall.
