So Boyfriend or Best Friend and I drove back to our hometown together from school last night and drove straight to a restaurant where we met his parents for dinner. We got to the table and I set my purse down and made a bee-line for the bathroom (I have a very small bladder). When I got back his parents were acting so weird. Then Future Mother-In-Law blurts out “well are you guys engaged?” I’m sure the look on my face was priceless because I kind of kept looking from Boyfriend or Best Friend to her in utter confusion. Boyfriend or Best Friend denied it and I held up my empty left hand. Future Father-In-Law just started laughing. Now, Future Father-In-Law is an instigator and he realllllly wants us to get engaged so he jokes and comments and prods. This could have just been a prank (please God no!) or Boyfriend or Best Friend could have really been talking seriously with them about it and it was a major slip-up.
Sigh, I made light of the situation and didn’t say anything about it after we left dinner. But here’s hoping right, I’m so sick of waiting.
*on a side note Future Mother-In-Law has been the most wary of us getting engaged because “we’re so young” (he’s 22, I’m 21, we’ve been together 6 years) so the fact that she was so excited makes me happy.
