I was with him when he asked my parents. I picked out my ring. I even knew when he bought it. I just didn’t know when he was going to ask. Didn’t make the moment any less amazing 🙂

I knew, we talked about getting engaged, I was there when he asked my dad’s permission, and I picked the ring, I had even guessed the date (but he didn’t tell me if I was right or not!)

I think it takes a huge leap of faith and a whole lot of confidence on the guy’s part to do a surprise engagement without having the “what’s our future talk” for a few weeks/months/years before and letting his girl know he’s on the engagement track.

My fiance would have never in million years proposed to me if he thought there was even a .00001% chance I’d say no; and I think a lot of guys out there are probably of the same train of thought.

As another bee said — the proposal can be a surprise: the timing, the place, the ring, etc; but knowing the engagement is imminent is probably not a surprise most of the time.

I knew completely! Fiance is the least romantic person ever – he’s done one romantic thing in the five years we’ve been together, and that was the night he proposed.

I think I was more nervous than him because I knew it was coming and didn’t want to freak out and drop the ring (we were on a boat in a lake). But it absolutely was just as special – although the wait was AGONIZING!

I knew that we were going to get engaged.  We had talked about getting engaged and even had had a wedding date picked out before we got engaged!  (That wedding date ended up getting pushed back because I’m persuing more higher education.)

Since Fiance wanted a ring of his own, he told me when he ordered my ring so that I could order his ring.  He wanted to be able to get his ring as soon as he gave me my ring.  But the date that he proposed was a surprise.  I had to carry that ring with me everywhere for about three months.

@kimberlyr22:  My Fiance asked me with no warning, after 8 months of dating and no previous discussions of marriage. . He would have been more nervous about it if he had known at the time that I had turned down two previous proposals.

I knew he had the ring and knew it was going to come soon but wasn’t sure exactly how or when.  He ended up completely surprising me anyways and I had no clue he was going to propose when and where he did.  So, no I don’t think it takes anything away from it.  Maybe just ask him to keep the when and where to himself so you can be surprised!  I think it will still be a beautiful moment – you won’t know exactly when and you definitely won’t know what he will say – which was the most special part to me of the whole proposal!

We picked out the diamond and I designed the setting.  I knew the ring was in the house (he didn’t even bother hiding it).

He still managed to surprise me on a Thursday evening, and it was wonderful.  Really – any other way would not be *us.*

Even though my fiance would have liked for everything to have been a surprise, I was in on everything.  I knew when he asked my parents for their blessing.  We went ring shopping together.  I even okayed the CAD of my custom ring before it was made, lol!  I even knew when & where he was going to propose even before he did, lol!  I had typed my prediction in my iPod the Tuesday before, lol, that really blew him away!!

Even though I knew it was coming, it didn’t lessen the moment in any way!!  When he went down on one knee & had the ring in hands, it was amazing!!  Actually, I was glad I knew it was coming, lol, I was dressed real cute, my nails were freshly buffed, I was wearing my favorite necklace, etc.  I’m not one for surprises, so I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
