Do not drink alcohol while taking ibuprofen. Alcohol can increase the risk of stomach bleeding caused by ibuprofen.

@julies1949: I believe this is true for high doses over a continued period of time. Doctors usually don’t recommend drinking alcohol with most medicines, but ibuprofen is not one of the absolute no-no’s.

It’s fine to have a glass or two of wine.

Ibuprofen’s “half life” is about 2 hours. And ibuprofen is metabolized through the kidneys and not the liver.

Alcohol and pain killers is more of an issue with Tylonel (acetaminophen), since they are both metabolized by the liver.

I would do it.

I’m not a doctor and don’t want to/can’t be responsible for any repercussions, but I would have a glass or two if I wanted.

Ibuprofen and alcohol really shouldn’t be mixed. Wait at LEAST six hours before having a glass of wine. The ethanol and ibuprofen metabolites can mingle and wreak havoc on your liver. Oxidants (carcinogens) can be released into your blood stream.

I am NOT a medical professional.
