- Wedding: April 2013
Ok so it’s 14 weeks till my wedding and I originally and stupidally ordered my wedding dresof from a Chinese seller off ebay!! It was a Pronovias Fuente knock off…..I knew I was taking a risk but a few of my friends had ordered their dress from China and their dresses were beautiful…well anyway not for me…the dress was way too small, was nothing like the picture and to make it worse the flowers were glued on with a glue gun!!! It was shocking!! I was so upset worried that I wouldn’t have a wedding dress on time for the big day as most boutiques say you have to allow at Least 6 months for a dress to be ordered! Anyway I went to Cardiff the following weekend with my £500 budget ( this was all I had left to spend on a dress!!) and luckily I managed to pick up a Charlotte Balbier Lake Como dress in a sample sale! The A line shape was not really the shape I wanted but the dress had the lovely one shoulder flower strap that I loved from the Pronovias dress and with a hoop skirt underneath it did give that princess/ball gown look without the need for shortening (I’m 5’2).
when I tried the dress on in the shop the assistant only loosely tied the back and didn’t put the ribbon through every loop just to see what it looked like!! I loved it and I bought the dress!
when I took the dress home and tried it on my mum tied the ribbon for me and the loops were close together and there was no gap and it did not have that V shape like other corset backs. Does this matter do you think? Or would it look silly? The dress fits fine and does not look big on me apart from the bust area is a tiny bit loose but that was because I didn’t not have a bra on!!
do you think it is worth altering the dress? I can do alterations myself as I have a fashion degree but I’ve never altered a wedding dress before so would be a bit nervous about doing it myself! A also I have recently lost 2 and a half stone and was hoping to try and lose another stone before the wedding…I’m afraid the dress is not going to fit!! I can’t afford alterations from a professional wedding dress seamstress as our budget has been pretty much used now!! Any suggestions?
