We think we have found our photographer! Her work is great and although is one of the more expensive ones around. She was able to give us a pretty significant 20% discount on our wedding photography off her list prices when I told her I really wanted to work with her but was out of our budget.
Anyway, I want to do a trash the dress shoot after the wedding but she charges around $1,000 compared to other photogs who charge $600-$700. I feel guilty asking for another discount on the TTD considering she already gave us a hefty one on wedding photography.
Is it a faux pas to ask another photog just to do our trash the dress shoot? Or should I just ask our wedding photog and see if she will discount, too?
Also, I feel bad going to the other photographers and saying “sorry you weren’t good enough for the wedding, but do the TTD”. Should I just go with one with lower all around prices? The quality of photos are actually very similar, I just liked the one a little bit more.

I’d ask your photog first. If she can’t, then whats the harm in waiting a bit after your wedding for a TTD and using another photog?

Yeah, I would mention to your photographer that you can’t afford her TTD session but really want her/him. See what they can do. They might be willing to work with you some more. I would think they would want to do as many sessions as possible with you. More money for them. If they can’t work with you, I wouldn’t feel bad looking for others. I wouldn’t tell the other photographers that they weren’t good enough, but I would tell them that you are looking for a different style than your wedding photos. Plus, you can tell them that you were looking in a particular price range.

i was in a similar situation and was upfront with my photographer and told her there was no way i could afford her TTD. and she knew i was then going to do it with someone else who i had actually booked my wedding and cancelled before her. she then lowered her price to what i could afford and finally i went with her.
there were other reasons to stay with a different photog as well for the TTD (in terms of location etc), but i was advised (on the bee!) that i would be better off keeping one photog for everything as i would be more comfortable shooting with the same photog after having spent my wedding day with them,

I think that’s totally ok! It’s only not ok when you book a second photog to shoot your wedding when you haven’t talked to the 1st photog about it.
