I would even pass out an invite by hand if I was going to see that person around the time I was mailing them.  I don’t see anything wrong with it.  I would just not pass them out around other people who are not invited.  Do it discreetly.

I handed out a lot of my std by hand and will be doing that with the invites as well. Mostly to family and friends that are close by and see on a regular basis

Of course it’s ok! Go for it, girl. =) Save-the-dates are more of a courtesy to your guests, and there is no real etiquette surrounding them.

We had them laying out at our engagement party – saved us a lot of postage!

we only handed out a couple, but that’s because we didn’t see most people. seems totally okay to me!

I passed mine out by hand. Why waste the money on the stamps was my feeling on it! Go for it!

I’ve read on one of those etiquette sites that “under no circumstances should you pass out an invite by hand”. But I still did it. And this is an STD-go for it!

Did you have a picture of them posted on here earlier?  I didn’t comment on the picture, but thought it was such a great image!

Just a word to the wise-I think it’s totally fine to pass out by hand but make sure you keep track of who you did/did not give them to.  My cousin tried to pass them out by hand at his sister’s wedding but forgot to give them to a bunch of people in our family and this ended up creating a lot of drama about people thinking they weren’t invited (heck maybe they weren’t and bullied their way into an invite but it sounded like they just honestly didn’t realize that they forgot to give them to a bunch of people).

I think it kind of depends on who you’re planning on handing them out to.  I think if it’s your immediate family it’s probably ok- I handed my STD to my parents and in laws- but maybe consider mailing them to other friends/family.  I had a friend hand deliver a STD to me and I thought she was being kind of cheap.  I get saving money and all that but you can’t buy a stamp?  But that’s just ME-I think it’s probably just best to evaluate your crowd in this case.  🙂
