My parents did that with me all the time if they needed to call into the corner shop. there’s no way they’d have done it for a full grocery shop at the supermarket but s quick nip into the post office when they’re just outside, sure.

I think it is perfectly fine to do this if it is a quick shop. Car robbery? Kidnapped by psychos? Please…you’d have more chance of something going wrong by trying to handle all three kids at the shop.

I know this is an older post, but I actually JUST read this article by a mum who left her son in the car, and then happened to stumble upon this thread. I’m sorry if the article has been posted before; I didn’t read through all 7 pages of comments:
ETA: I just went back a few pages and see that it WAS posted already, sorry. Anyone who hasn’t read it yet – you should. It gives a very interesting perspective on this debate.

I was under the impression it was the LAW that you can’t leave your kids in the car now?
I remember being a little kid and left in the car…I actually remember finding it upsetting. Like…why bring me along if you are just going to leave me in the car at the end?
