I don’t think it’s childish. You specifically said you didn’t like it. I’d have been annoyed too if I had gotten something I had specifically rejected ahead of time. It’s like making your SO their most despised dish for their birthday dinner.

Wow, Im guessing there would be at least a few thousand dollars difference in the two??? Could that be a factor ??

I’m pretty sure the ring you want costs much more than the ring he gave you (maybe that’s why he chose it). Since you said you have some savings set aside, why not buy yourself the solitaire ring you want and have your jeweler reset the ring he gave you to an eternity or half eternity band. That way, you get your preferred solitaire and a matching band with his stones.
