my guest list is up to 150. the seating capacity for my venue is 250 but after I spoke with ppl who have been to weddings there they said 150 was tight with a dance floor and buffet. I’m having my wedding and reception at the same place and the cocktail hr will be outside. is it okay for me to have the buffet outside as well to give us more room…the outside is covered…i am moving those awful green benches…and also i could use a tent for the part that isn’t covered

We are having ours outside. My caterer said as long as it is covered and someone is manning it the entire time it wont be a problem. So that way if there are any unwanted bugs that appear someone working the table can make sure that the lids are all closed when no one is getting food etc.
Have you asked your venue if people have done this there before? They may have some good advice.

@chellology:thx…yes it has been done before and the catering company will have adequate staff there to man the food. i mean ppl have weddings outside in tents all the time so i didn’t see what was so different about this…a friend was telling me she didn’t think it was a good idea

Mine will be outside as well. They also said its better that way since your venue won’t smell like food. And if the view is nice, your guests will appreciate it.

I think it should be fine, especially if they have severs. Just make sure you have a back-up plan for rain/weather.

I think it should be fine as long as its covered and the weather permits!

An outside buffet would actually be a great idea – especially if you set the mood with some plants and lighting.

There’s nothing wrong with having the buffet outside.
You have another option, perhaps, as well. At larger private dinner-dances held in large homes, it used to be quite common to have the dancing on the veranda. I can see that the music travelling across the water could be a problem if there are homes on the other side of the lake and the music is loud and late, but I would consider the option.

It is totally fine to have it outside. I have been to a ton of weddings where that was the case.
