I picked out my ring before engagement too. Fiancé found a few he thought I’d like, but I tried on a trellis setting, tapered band solitaire, and knew it was for me. I knew when fiancé was going to propose because he planned a nice weekend away. He proposed a month after purchasing the ring. Congratulations to you both!

No problem. Just wanted to clarify because a 1 1/3 solitaire would likely appraise for more than 1 1/3 total carat weight, and while you likely got a good deal, the original price of 5000 may be inflated, depending on the diamond quality, craftmanship, etc.
For what it’s worth, neither my spouse nor I trusted him to pick out my ring: so I chose exactly what I wanted 🙂
