Is it okay to request slight modesty in bridesmaids dresses?

I think it’s fine to nix one style of dress, but I think it’s sad that it’s because you don’t want them to look *too* hot or whatever.

jellybellynelly :  wow you’re so miserable, do you just live to troll/ start stuff?

She said some of them were too sexy for her taste, it’s perfectly acceptable to want bridesmaids not to dress too revealing.

ladyvk :  I feel like I’ll be insecure standing next to my hot friends if they’re also wearing a very revealing dress

This sounds like how the trend of bms wearing ugly ass dresses got started lol.

It is completely reasonable. It’s your day – you’re already being more accommodating than most brides by giving your bridesmaids a range of options for their dresses! That is not the behavior of a bride who wants her bridesmaids to look “ugly.” If something is off limits for you, that is entirely your right and you do not have to justify it.

I think this is fine.  If you feel weird about saying “any except this dress” then alternatively you could give them a list of 5-10 styles you do like that they can choose from.

What you are requesting is totally reasonable.  Send them the range of dresses that you like and let them choose.  I agree with wanting the bridesmaids to look modest and elegant/classy on your wedding day. I went to a wedding once where all of the bridesmaids wore extremely low-cut, tight, short baby blue dresses that did not leave much to the imagination!  They had trouble bending down or sitting all day and I kept seeing them tugging on their dresses as it barely covered their butts. I have no idea why the bride thought it was a good idea to put her BM’s in these dresses. It was not only distracting for the guests but also didn’t look very classy.

bluejaybride :

Nothing to add here except I think you sound  like a lovely, thoughtful  and honest person.

bluejaybride :  It’s totally fine! I requested the same thing. The dress had to be Mint Green from David’s bridal, A-line, and not “sexy” in anyway. I prefer modest beauty for an event like a wedding, all my bridesmaids agreed that they shouldn’t be looking “sexy” either.
