Does anyone know if it is possible for a seamstress to alter a gown in a week? I just got my dress in and because of my crazy schedule the next month and a half, I legitimately don’t think I will be in any one city for longer than a week. I am thinking about trying to see if my dress can be altered while I am visiting my hometown (where the wedding will be), but again, I will only be there for one week.
Has anyone ever had their dress altered in such a short time frame or am I going to be laughed at if I request this?
FWIW, the dress almost fits me, it just needs to be taken in in the bust a little, hemmed, and then it needs a bustle.

Yes, it can be altered in a week. It all depends on how many dresses she has to alter. I suggest you find a seamstress now and begin to send pictures of what needs to be done.

It’s doable but like squeak35 says, it just depends on how many other dresses she’s working on. I would just call around and find out who has time for you during the week that you are able to go for alterations.

You need to call your seamstress ASAP and tell them when you’re coming in, and that you need it in a week. They can tell you if that fits their schedule or not. I would think they can do most things in a week, the problem is the high volume of customers they may have. Do you think you can get it altered in a town, leave for however long, and come back to pick it up? OR you could have it altered in your home town, leave and then you know you’ll be back for the wedding and pick it up there. That would give the seamstress more time.

Ditto what kperry said. Definitely make the appt ahead of time and make sure they know what the dress looks like. There is a world of difference between a plain hem and an embellished one. Same with a bodice where they have to line up lace patterns, ruching, etc. The good news is it sounds like this one is a keeper! I can’t wait to see a picture!
