I hope I answer your actual question…let’s use Blue Nile as an example they offer “upgrades”. Those are only on the diamond not the setting. So if you paid $5000 for original diamond they will give you the $5000 towards a new diamond that is twice the original…you would have to spend at least $10000 on the new stone. The halo is part of the setting and it will not count towards the new diamond.

Maybe there are small mom and pop places that offer other deals but I doubt it.

So basically once you upgrade the diamond you will have to buy a new setting.

Yes you could upgrade easily, just take it to any jeweler and they can swap out the stones. But a bigger stone will cover more your halo so I don’t know that it would be worth it to me.

katiefitness92 :  no the halo is made around the diamond’ measurements. You can’t stretch the halo to make it fit around the bigger diamond. You WILL Abe able to take the diamonds that you used for original halo and use them to make the biggger halo for bigger diamond

If the jeweler is able to get a bigger diamond to fit into the existing setting it will have to sit higher than your old stone and will overlap some of your halo. I couldnt quite tell in your photo if your center is round, my phone screen is tiny lol. If it isn’t, the exterior shape of a square/cushion/etc could vary just a tiny bit and it would overlap more on some parts of your halo than others, very minimally, but you may see it.

victoriad :  I have never seen anything like that…a diamond overlapping the halo ?

Each well made halo is made to exact specs of stone.  You can’t go from a .40 diamond for example to a 1 carat with the same halo. No reputable jeweler will do that because they can’t lol

allthingsthatsparkle :  I’m not saying it’s a good idea, but that’s what it would look like if you put in a diamond that’s too big for your ring.

I don’t see how a bigger diamond could fit into the existing halo.  I think you would need to change the entire setting if you upgrade.

You’d have to speak to the jeweler but perhaps they could remove the inner halo and switch it to a single halo, if that’s at all possible. It may take a bit of work and most likely an entirely new setting would need to be recast as it could ruin the integrity of the ring.   They could use materials from your ring maybe. Or you can maybe keep the setting as is a put a gem stone in it and buy a new setting for the larger stone. But no, your double halo setting wouldn’t accommodate a much larger diamond as is.

A well made halo should be made to the specific specs of the center stone. I would not recommend using the same setting (even if there’s a jeweler out there that says they’ll do that for you). You could always sell the setting and and use that money toward a new one.
