I’ve never had anyone ask if it was real, since my ring is small and dainty, although there are 9 diamonds total. It’s perfect for me since I’m not big on rings or jewelry in general.
BUT! My FH’s little sister, upon seeing my ring said, “Is that it? I mean, It’s pretty. But he bought a bigger one for his ex and it wasn’t even an engagement ring.”
I was pretty mortified. To this day I can’t figure out if she was being rude or was genuinely surprised.

@MsCarrots: Wow. Gulp. How old was his little sister when she said that?

My husband’s Grandma jokingly said “ARE YOU SURE IT’S NOT A FAKEY-JAKEY?” in her adorable little New York accent when we called to tell her we got engaged. It was cute and she was the only one who has said anything like that.

Never once been asked that and honestly don’t understand why anyone cares in the first place. It’s not their ring so it shouldn’t matter. To many people it really doesn’t matter because they know and when to mind their own business. The bad apples of the bunch ruin it for everyone else, which is why so many people think that others care what you wear.

I dont get the “is it real”.. I get the “is that a canary diamond.”. I guess since gemstones are the norm now people dont know if its a diamond or another yellow stone.

@Sunfire: She was 17 at the time, so I’d like to think she was just being young and had a case of verbal diarreah.

@MsCarrots: wow. that would have definitely gotten under my skin, even if she’s 17. that’s so rude and 17 is old enough to know better!

The only question I get is ‘what is it?’ lol. I have a natural pink sapphire so for some people it seems to be a shock. My mom was showing her friend a picture of my ring and she was like ‘it’s beautiful but it looks pink…’ 🙂

The only time I got mad was when someone asked me, “So you’re really engaged? This is an engagement ring?” Um, it looks like it, doesn’t it?
I’m 18, so I half expected that question at least once….but not from a total stranger that I had NEVER met before in my life. Everyone that actually knows me just accepts it and they’re all happy for me.

I have never been asked, but then mine really looks like a diamond (which it is) and fakes are uncommon in our social network, it is more common for people to get a smaller ring than a man made stone.
