My question is: with that neckline, will you be able to wear a sweater or coat or something so that you don’t freeze to death in Iowa in November?

Etsy is awesome, by the way – do you know the deal on Alchemy requests? If you don’t already have a seamstress in mind, this might be a good option, especially since I know your budget is pretty slim, and Etsy is not always the cheapest route.

oh wait. and I voted wrong. crap. the double negative in your poll confused me ;P I meant, “no, it’s not a bad idea”, but I said “yes, you should do it” instead.

@Statutory Grape:  I’m a pretty avid Etsy user.  While I have never ordered any custom dresses, I have ordered custom children’s clothing and have yet to have a bad experience.  When selecting my sellers, I REALLY dig into their feedback.  I also look for “appreciate photos” posted to their feedback.  Do the photos that the buyers post line up with the photos advertised in the seller’s shop?  How is their customer service — are they quick to reply to inquiries, are they accomodating, do they frequently work with custom orders?

The dress you have selected is absolutely stunning!  If you feel in your heart that you will love the fit and style on you, and you have a great Etsian lined up to do the work, I say go for it!  You’ve got my vote!

@Statutory Grape:  What exactly are you nervous about?  And I don’t ask this in a smart way, I’m genuinely curious about what your hesitations are.  I may have some ideas to help you with them.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Is she willing to let you search your area for the fabric you’re looking for?  If she lets you find the fabric, she should shave the cost off the final bill.  I did that recently with an order where my Etsy seller didn’t have any tank tops in my daughter’s size.  It sounds to me like you’ve found a great seller — I’m really hoping it works out for you!

Wow that’d be really pretty! if she has great reviews, maybe just ask her for some samples of her work. I bet she has some photos. That dress would be really pretty in green. It has a gorgeou neckline
