I wouldn’t have an issue with doing a weekend away with friends, but I’d look into pricing… I went May long weekend once, and it ran me twice as much (flights, hotel) as when I’ve been on non-long weekends. We only planned it 2-3 months ahead of time (as always), so maybe you’d have less of a differential with this much lead time, but it’s definitely something to consider. If it’s the same price or marginally more than a random weekend, I’d say do it, because it’s nice to have the longer weekend.

At the end of the day, what WE would do won’t necessarily reflect what the specific people you want to come along would do. You should really be polling them, and then making a decision based on THEIR feedback.

@echolove:  sounds like you’re getting an awesome deal. free flights = amazing! i’m not familiar with the hotel at all, but it sounds like a steal. even if the shuttle breaks down and you have to cab, i’d totally be down.

That sounds fine to me. It’s not Christmas or something.

I would give enough notice. I didn’t know (I just realized it!) that my bachelorette party weekend is also Easter weekend! And that’s a big deal to most people.

@echolove:  I love Red Rock casino…the slots are much looser there than the strip. I personally wouldn’t have a problem w/giving up Labor Day weekend…we usually just go camping.

AND I’m sure the rooms at Red Rock are WAY cheaper, right? My ONLY and this is MY personal concern…how far away are your guests having to travel? Have you checked how much airfare would be to Vegas…during that weekend? B/c it “might” be more since it’s a holiday.

For me, money isn’t the issue as long as I feel I got a “vacation’s worth” out of it….so I probably wouldn’t shell out the money for 1 night…but I’d go for a 3-4 day weekend.

I’ve been to Vegas for LDW and it’s SO much fun!! The last weekend of pool parties is amazing!!! So yes, I would go in a heartbeat. As long as it’s not too expensive compared to other weekends then go for it! It’s not like you’re planning on doing it over Thanksgiving! And, this way people should already have a day off work so it’s one less vacation day that they have to take.

I wouldn’t worry about it. That isn’t a big holiday known for hanging out with family at home or anything like Christmas or Easter. Either people will love the idea of a vegas getaway on labor day weekend or they will already have plans and decline. The only thing is sometimes over holidays traveling can be more expensive. Do they have to fly there?

Edit- just saw your comment about flying for free. Sounds like an awesome trip! Go for it.
