@beach_lover89:  I got married at the zoo… It was amazing and people still talk about it being fun, unconventional, yet still beautiful. Also the food was AWESOME

@beach_lover89:  My cousin got married at a zoo! Their cocktail hour was in the gorilla enclosure. It was pretty cool!

However, I personally don’t *love* zoos, so I wouldn’t have my wedding there. I think the reasons/disdain your friends and family are expressing are just snobby and not providing valid reasons.

I think this sounds amazing! I love weddings at interesting venues! I’m surprised that you’re getting the negative reactions that you are but if this is what you and your fiance want to do, don’t let others deter you.

@somathemagical:  Sometimes you need pictures to prove the point.  What a gorgeous wedding.  Nothing like friendly dolphins (at least that’s what it looks like) having front row seats.

@beach_lover89:  so if I’m being honest, I would think it was odd. I mean when I think of the zoo, I think about tennis shoes, hats, dust, and smelly animals (I mean I LOVE animals, but…) I also don’t think I’d be too excited about walking through the large area of a zoo to get to the ceremony in heels or a nice dress. That said, it’s YOUR wedding. I’d happily attend a friends wedding wherever made them happy, including a zoo.

It’s not really a unique concept around here at all. I’ve enjoyed the zoo weddings I’ve been too.

I love wedding venues that are outside the norm, and zoos are no exception! If you and your fiancé love it, go for it. Ignore the naysayers.

Zoos are very common wedding venues.  They have their own wedding coordinator and section of their website devoted to weddings.  Is it stereotypical? Of course not.  And if your family has only ever attended stereotypical church/banquet hall weddings then maybe it is strange to them.  But if it were “strange” then most major zoos all around the country wouldn’t have wedding info on their websites and employ coordinators. Most major and even a lot of lesser known zoos do.

I would love to go to a wedding there. You can invite me lol. I would be concerned if it was a zoo that didn’t take good care of their animals, but the San Diego Zoo has a really good reputation. It’s wonderful that proceeds would go toward their conservation efforts.

That sounds like fun idea! Totally biased as the zoo was on our short list also. Practically speaking, just not sure about holding the ceremony right next to the elephant enclosure lol. Everyone’s different & it seems a lot of people give their family’s wishes just as much weight as their own (understandable if family is helping pay), but being that it’s *your* wedding I’m in the camp that couples should make wedding decisions together based on what makes them smile (happy+excited) first and foremost. I’ve been bored to death at some upscale venues & had a ton of fun at some backyard weddings, but at the end of the day the point was to support+celebrate the couple so it didn’t matter if the [location/colors/food/goat ringbearer/etc.] were to our personal taste or not. Love seeing a couple truly excited & comfortable letting their personalities shine through the details☺️

@beach_lover89: your friends and family are crazy. This sounds amazing! It may not be everyone’s choice for their own wedding, but guess what? It’s not their wedding! I personally would not get married at the zoo bc I want to get married in a more traditional place but I love going to weddings in unique places! It’s so fun as a guest! I just don’t understand the hate. Do they think you’re getting married in a pig pen or something? They understand it’s an actual wedding venue right? And the freaking San Diego zoo and not some random petting zoo in some small town? Regardless, you do you and screw what they think!

Also, as a side note, anyone who says they find zoos offensive is just being ignorant and hasn’t done their research about what legitimate zoos actually do to help animal conservation. So don’t even bother paying attention to them. You know what you are doing helps and that’s all that matters.
