I am a firm believer in registering for whatever YOU want. We registered for a few big ticket items that we assumed no one would buy and we’d use the discount after the wedding to buy it for ourselves…but people bought them anyway!

Its adorable!

But honestly if I saw it I wouldn’t think its tacky. I would think maybe you was pregnant? If its cheap enough buy it yourself or ask your husband to. 🙂

I see the Ipod alarm clock all the time on registries.  Why would an alarm clock be any different than registering for a kichen timer?  The turtle, although not usual, is still not the most unusual item I’ve ever seen on a registry.

Edit:  i just saw your update that somone purchased the turtle.  I love picking unusual items to purchase and see, someone else apparently felt the same!

@CMSnails: The turtle is a little different, but not tacky by any means.

Non-traditional items (outside of linens, housewares, etc) are actually becoming very common.  We had an Ipod clock radio on our registry and it was one of the first few items bought.  We also had board games and sleeping bags that were all purchased.

I don’t think it’s tacky, but people are probably going to think it’s on there by mistake, or that you’re trying to tell them something (aka: that you’re pregnant), as far as the turtle goes.   But, hey, I’m registering for a Magna Doodle to put on our door like they have on Friends.

iPod clock isn’t what I’d consider to be tacky, either.  Now Fiance, he wants to register for a flat screen TV.  THAT is tacky.  Originally, he wanted to register for a PS3 but we bought one last month, so I dodged that bullet.  His ideas for registry items are just nuts.  Fishing rods, guns, TVs, vibrators… the list goes on… and I hold the little scanner thing when we go register!

My niece has one of those turtles in her room and if you forget to turn it on to the blue light before you put her to bed….. watch out! You get schooled! I actually love laying in bed with her and looking at her ceiling when it’s on. It’s not big, but the stars spread out across her whole ceiling and down the wall. It’s super cool and not at all a tacky gift. I would scratch my head a bit to see it on a wedding registry, but not too much.

Also, I think the alarm clock is fine too. I think people register for all kinds of things these days, so most people are not shocked by non traditional registry items these days.  🙂
