Maybe not for venues, but I’ve gotten this advice a lot recently. People saying that when dealing with florists and other vendors, you should try not to tell them the flowers/centerpieces/favors/decorations for a wedding specifically because they’ll mark up the price?
Have you found this to be true? If so, does this only apply to certain vendors? Or were these people just blowing smoke up my arse?

I’ve personally found it to be true. Cakes/cupcakes/flowers… even alterations have a hike in price once the word wedding gets out.
LOL… My FI’s colleague advised us, “Go tell them you need cupcakes for a ‘party’, otherwise you’ll be seeing a 100% jump.”

No, I think it’s true. When you mention the word “wedding” the price increases to a crazy percentage. We have been lucky to have found great deals on certain wedding items like cake, centerpieces, dj, videographer, wedding planner (got a 50% discount), and photographer. I would suggest look for vendors who are flexible with working with budgets because some vendors will not work with certain budgets no matter what (at least I have experienced this) and look up vendors who are either starting out or still new in the business.
