I was thinking of having my cousin’s daughter who is 11 as the ring bearer. I forgot completely about the ring bearer uptil now.Sheesh..I always assumed the page boy would carry the ring holder. But he is 4 and the other page boy is 3.The flower girls are 4 and 2 years old. And i seriously doubt any of them can be trusted with the ring holder. Plus all the kids are from my FI’s family and none of the kids are from my side of the family. So this would be a good way to include her to the wedding party. Also, she will be walking alone after the flower girls and page boys.
So please tell me ladies if anybody has/had a girl as the ring bearer and is it ok?

I’ve never seen it done traditionally, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. A girl can carry a ring as well as a boy. I don’t think anybody would judge it either.

Etiquette Snob here… lol
There is no RULE on this… so do whatever works for you.
I personally think it sounds adorable and a great way to include a relative from your side of the family.
Hope this helps,

I think it’s a great idea! I don’t think anyone will think it’s strange because she’s a girl. Besides, an 11-year-old can be trusted with the rings while I admit I would be nervous with a 3 or 4-year-old.

She would love the responsibility and more ‘adult’ job, I’m sure. Sounds like a great idea.

I think its a Great idea and to make it even more adorable just call her princess of the ring like some brides call the boys king of the ring.

Thank you ladies for being so supportive about this idea.
When i said to my Fiance an hour ago “we need a ring bearer” he said “let the bestman hold the rings” WAIT!WHAT?! I asked him “Do you even know what a ring bearer is?” So when i told him the idea he thought it was great but he said “let her walk down the aisle with the ring holder and keep the rings with the bestman because it could easily get lost or stolen with all the people around before entering” That makes a little sense to me.But walkin down the aisle with no rings??hmm…
Anyway, I’m super excited. I have to inform my cousin soon.I just have a month and a half left.
I’ve got another question: What should she wear? My colours are emerald green and pastel pink.Emerald green dresses will be worn by the BMs and pastel pink with emerald green accents will be worn by the flower girls. So should she match the flower girls or have a diamond white dress matching my wedding dress?

It’s perfectly fine. And at that age, there’s no need to give her fake rings, she might as well carry the real ones.
She could match either the flower girls or the bridesmaids. With girls that age I’ve seen both done – either same colour as BMs, or slightly different like your flower girls are. I think it would look odd to have her matching you, especially when the flower girls aren’t.

you’re right about it looking odd. But i really want her to look a bit different…any ideas?

our 4 year old so was king of the ring.. BUT he only walked down the aisle with the pillow. Best man had the rings with him. Your Fiance is totally right lol

Maybe if you want to let her walk with here comes the bride sign instead of pillow. Just let bestman have rings.

One more thing sorry just read about dress color for her. I had a flower girl, two little girls walked with here comes the bride and two 10 year old junior bridesmaids. my colors was purple and silver so i had 6 bridesMaids that wore purple dresses, i had 1 matron and 1 maid of honor they wore silver dresses. My 5 yr old flower girl and two 5 yr old little girls wore purple petal dresses and the two 10 yr old jr bridesmaids wore silver petal dresses so their dress colors went with matron and maid and the 5yr olds purple matched bridesmaids. I’m going to post picture of the little girls purple and silver petal dresses.

It’s perfectly fine, gender shouldn’t matter

@futuremrscap: Ring Bearer….the words don’t even denote if it should be a boy or girl)….I was really going to do this…my aunt had a problem with it….(. eye roll) but I didn’t care. In the end though I found a better role for all the kids…because there was 2 older ones (girls) I made them banner bearers….so I didn’t have a ring bearer…but I totally think it’s cute!
